Zakat All Year Round |

Ramadhan witnessed the majority of Zakat givers perform this obligation. However, Zakat is given throughout the year.
Depending on the beginning of your haul or "Zakat Year", the need to give Zakat may fall at any time.
To determine if Zakat has turned wajib for you, simply follow these steps:
- Refer to MUIS website for the latest Nisab.
- Obtain your bank account(s) balance(s) starting from a year ago till today. Note that you should subtract 11 days off the Gregorian calendar to get a full Hijrah year; i.e. count back 354 days. For example, if you are checking your account on the 20th October 2008, you should note your balances starting from 9th October 2007 till 20th October 2008.
- If the lowest balance throughout this "year" equals to or is more than the Nisab, congratulations! You are eligible to give Zakat.
- The Zakat rate is 2.5% on the minimum balance maintained throughout this "Zakat year" (haul). Which is a mere $25.00 for every $1,000.00 saved.
- Contact your nearest Authorised Zakat Collection Centre.
