· Ramadan reinvigorate and rejuvenate the human soul which can easily become weak and distracted, so that we can continue in our strive to do good in our lives with patience and perseverance.
· Ramadan reinforces the meanings of these noble values through all acts that we are encouraged to perform in that month especially the value of rahmah.
· To establish good relations with others, the value of rahmah and compassion should be our guiding principle and colour all actions and words of the believers. 
· The value of rahmah and compassion will unite all of us, in the purpose and goal to seek the truth and the best for our community, celebrate the diversity of views which are founded on sound principles and reasoning, encourage us to work together, help one another, coordinate our efforts to overcome the challenges of our community collectively and prevent us from breaking apart.
· Indeed Eid al-Fitri is the suitable day to express the value of rahmah and compassion towards all.

With the ushering of the ne year, we seek to renew our resolutions and breathe in fresh air. Let us therefore think of the role each one of us can and should play to strengthen out communit and overcome these issues collectively as one community. Consider the following guidelines from our religion. They are preventive in nature, and will make us proactive in forging a respectable and competitive community amidst a global and fast growing society...

Just look at ourselves. We are blessed every second that we breathe well and comfortably. Our bodies that move and function despite how small or minute they may be, our eyes that see, our mouths that speak, our ears that listen, all these are the blessingsof Allah s.w.t. upon us.

If we refer to the Holy Quran, beyond only recitation and worship, but probing into its profound knowledge and deep sciences, we will find that more than fourteen centuries ago, we have been inspired by the Holy Quran to speak to the universe. Not only to Arabs, Persians, Chinese or others, but to the whole universe.

The world's temperature has increased by 1.5 degree Celsius. This small increase in temperature has resulted in the melting of ice in the arctic and many animals such as polar bears, seals and penguins are affected by this change. Coral reefs which protect many sea lives and are sensitive to temperature change are dying.

We cannot separate knowledge from iman (faith) as both iman and knowledge form the complete teachings of Islam. Our iman will be incomplete if it not based on real understanding and knowledge. Similarly, without iman (faith), we will not be able to see and accept the truth. For us Muslims, the Holy Quran revealed to the Prophet Muhammad s.a.w. forms a comprehensive source of fundamental knowledge, on matters relating to this world and the hereafter.

 Muslim scholars explain that what it means by the Quran being a guide for all things is in terms of its principles. The Holy Quran provides the general principles and guidelines to which Muslims should hold on strongly, for them to understand and surmount challenges and issues in life.

How best it is if we can do good deeds on the basis of IHSAN. Because IHSAN will guide us to do anything in the most excellent manner. When we are conscious that Allah The All-Knowing is monitoring us, we will always do our best.

If we truly observe, we will notice that of late, the environment has changed more frequently than ever before. Infact, these changes have had huge impact on human lives. For example, there are more earthquakes, tsunamis, floods, pandemics and others. Both human lives and properties are lost in the process.

After we had recited the Takbir on the eve of Syawal, we should try to appreciate its meaning and significance. Glorifying Allah on the eve of victory, after Allah s.w.t. has blessed us with a successful fast in Ramadan, will remind us of His greatness and mercy. We also reinforce our faith in the oneness of Allah s.w.t and that there is none except Him, Lord of the universe, who has bestowed us with the best and most honoured of blessings.

The fast that we have gone through in Ramadan seeks to make us better Muslims who possess taqwa. Taqwa means to remain faithful and obey Allah`s commands whole-heartedly, and to fear neglecting His orders. Those who have taqwa are those who are honoured and loved by Allah s.w.t

Amongst the impact of zakat is also the purification of the wealthy from greed and selfishness. Zakat is also a way to practice infaq fii sabilillah and an important tool in making people realise that being thankful to Allah is not only by expressing it verbally, but through our actions.

 Let us welcome the month of Ramadan with a full sense of love and appreciation. We need to prepare ourselves physically and spiritually to gain all the advantages that Allah has bestowed upon this blessed month. We have to seize all the opportunities available in the month which consists of multiple rewards and the grace of Lailatul Qadar. This is the month which Allah s.w.t has favoured with His mercy and forgiveness.

But we are considered to be thankful to Allah s.w.t when the blessings of Allah s.w.t. are used to benefit ourselves, our community and our environment. As Imam al-Qurtubi puts it,  “Syukr means to appreciate the gift of Allah the All-Giving, and not to use it to disobey Him.” This means that a sign of sincere gratitude is to use all of Allah’s blessings to obey Him and to do good, not to disobey Him nor spread mischief.

This attribute, of tawadhu’, tells us that we are not perfect; that we have weaknesses and shortcomings. Thus, by practising tawadhu’, we have to be open-minded towards any criticisms or complaints and treat them as opportunities to improve ourselves. We should not dismiss the critics as being overly critical or to think badly of them, without reflecting on the merit of their words.

With the month of Rajab, we are reminded of a miraculous  event; the most special invitation Allah s.w.t has bestowed upon our beloved Prophet pbuh. Isra’ and Mi’raj is a special journey, a miracle. No matter how one looks at it, the journey was a veritable miracle. This miracle is a symbol of the love and mercy of Allah s.w.t for the Prophet pbuh and for the Prophet’s ummah. It is the greatest of journeys, that has been ordained by Allah, the Most Powerful, for his Prophet pbuh.

Guided by the attribute of our Prophet s.a.w as rahmatan lil 'alamin or blessings to all, we must strive to manifest the value of  rahmah in our lives. This is one way we can show our appreciation of our Prophet’s sacrifices. We must exhibit the best of moral character. We must be fair and just to everyone, regardless of their race or religion. This has been the practice and life of our Prophet s.a.w. and his companions.

Good relations which arise from the unity in faith, will give rise to a desire and willingness on our part to sacrifice for the good and welfare of others. This is shown to us by our Prophet s.a.w. and his companions in the city of Madinah, after the migration of the Prophet, where the Ansar and Muhajirin were united. The good relationship established between them gave rise to a community and ummah ready to sacrifice for the sake of his brother, and such unity strengthened further Muslims.
